The Elletts Beach site is in the south-eastern Manukau Harbour on the Poutawa Bank sandflat. It is close to the Whatapaka Creek inlet and is part of a network of sites that were introduced to track harbour-wide changes in sandflat ecology.
Monitoring has taken place since 1987 and the site is sampled on a rotational basis for mud content and macrofauna, among other sediment characteristics. Mud content is slightly elevated at this site, but it remains in good health.
