The Clarks Beach site is in the southern Manukau Harbour. It is close to the Waiuku and Taihiki River inlets and is part of a network of sites that were introduced to track harbour-wide changes in sandflat ecology.
Monitoring has taken place since 1987 and the site is sampled several times each year for mud content and macrofauna, among other sediment characteristics. Seagrass has gradually spread across the site in recent years, altering the macrofaunal community and creating occasional muddy patches. Overall, it is in fair health.
