The Cape Horn site is in the northern Manukau Harbour on the Te Tau Bank sandflat. It is roughly 10 km downstream of the Māngere Inlet and the Wastewater Treatment plant and is part of a network of sites that were introduced to track harbour-wide changes in sandflat ecology.
Monitoring has taken place since 1987 and the site is sampled on a rotational basis for mud content and macrofauna, among other sediment characteristics. Mud content is very low, and the site has good health overall.
