This site is in the north-western part of the southern Kaipara Harbour, on the intertidal Omokoiti sandflat. It has firm, coarse sands and strong ripple features, characteristic of a site with high energy from wind and waves.
The site has been monitored since 2009. Mud content and macrofauna are currently sampled every five years, and heavy metal contaminants roughly every ten years. There are very low mud content and contaminant concentrations at the site, resulting in good ecological health.
