Parahaki Island Planting Day

31 May 2014, 9:30am - 2:30pm Parahaki Island –Next to the Car park at the Ashhurst End of the Manawatū Gorge Horizons

Planting native plants along the River is an important part of restoring this Island to its former use as a Mahinga Kai site.  Te Kāuru-Hapū Collective has been spearheading this project with the support of Horizons Regional Council and the Manawatū Gorge Biodiversity Project and is a significant community project under the Manawatū River Leaders’ Accord grants initiative.

A community planting day will be held on Saturday 31 May providing the community an opportunity to get involved with the planting of approximately 2000 native plants.

“This project has been a fantastic opportunity to work together with the community, in collaboration with Horizons Regional Council and others with the overall goal being, the improvement and health of our River” says Hine Carberry a representative from Te Kāuru-Hapū Collective.
