Toxic algae levels have increased at Ruamāhanga at Double Bridges. Detached mats of toxic algae has also been observed along the riverside.
We recommend you avoid swimming and keep dogs on leads and away from the river at all times as toxic algae represents a very real risk to human and animal health.
