TOXIC ALGAE ON THE INCREASE IN THE HUTT RIVER!

The lovely weather of the past few weeks has a downside – toxic algae levels at Silverstream are very high and we’re advising swimmers and dog walkers to stay away from that section of the river. You should also exercise extreme caution if swimming at Birchville, Maoribank Corner and Poets Park, where toxic algae levels are increasing. From the Akatarawa/Hutt River confluence, south along the Hutt River, we strongly suggest that dogs are kept on a lead and away from the riverbank. Remember, ingesting toxic algae is very dangerous for both humans and dogs – so if in doubt, stay out!
