14 Feb 2020: Toxic algae update greater Wellington region

The good news this week is the warning signs about toxic algae on the Ruamahanga River at Morrison’s bush and Hutt River at Melling Bridge have been removed.

Warnings for this week:

  • Otaki River - toxic algae extends from Hautere to the river mouth.
  • Waikanae River in the vicinity of Jim Cooke Park
  • Hutt River at Silverstream - extends from the Trentham / moonshine bridge to Pomare train bridge (just upstream of Taita Rock)
  • Waipoua River - still has detached mats of toxic algae along the river banks

Remind yourself of what toxic algae looks like here.
