Kai Iwi Stream at Archers' Bridge

This site gives access to the beach looking out onto the Tasman Sea. It is popular with locals for swimming, walking, picnicing and fishing (both whitebait in the Kai Iwi Stream and longlines off the adjacent beach). Large amounts of erosion and a predominant farming landuse in the upstream catchment mean that this site can breach microbial concentration guidelines at times. Care should be taken to avoid swimming when the water clarity is low.

Upstream landuse consisting largely of sheep and beef farming and forestry. Poor stock exclusion from waterways and high erosion has historically seen high microbial concentrations.
