The Hokowhitu Lagoon is a popular location for Kayakers and regularly hosts water polo matches. The large park with its abundant bird life makes this a great location for a picnic or a walk. E. coli monitoring for contact recreation has recently commenced at this site.
This site is new to the contact recreation programme in 2015/2016 and therefore does not have enought data to generate an overall risk grade.
Stormwater drains from Palmerston North City are known to run into the Hokowhitu Lagoon and there is the potential that this and the bird life around the lagoon may influence water quality at this site.
