Wairoa at Above Ruahihi

The Wairoa at Above Ruahihi site was installed in September 1990 as part of Tauranga Harbour investigations and forms part of the Natural Environmental Regional Monitoring network. River level and flow are measured at the site and are influenced by water released from the Kaimai Hydropower scheme.

Summer flows at this site can get as low as 0.103 m3/s but normal river flows are closer to 4.3 m3/s. A high flood level of  866 m3/s was recorded at this site on 29 January 2011. This resulted in significant damage and subsequent repair to the site.
