Groundwater Zone: Tokoroa/Kinleith

The Tokoroa/Kinleith zone encompasses a broad north-south trending plateau in the middle of the upper Waikato River catchment. Historical water use has been dominated by large groundwater abstractions and post processing discharges by the Kinleith mill

The geology mainly consists of regular sequences of ignimbrite sheets. Greatest yields are from the Waiotapu/Kinleith ignimbrites with high transmissivities between 600 and 7000 m2/d. The groundwater is closely associated with surface water.

Accurately estimating the total amount of water available in a groundwater management zone is not currently possible. Regional Councils are working with the Ministry for the Environment on the best way to calculate this figure. We will include these figures on LAWA when they become available. Waikato Regional Council is currently unable to provide resource consent data at a water management zone level. They are working on this and will update the site soon.
